What is Menter a Busnes?
Menter a Busnes is a independent company that helps Welsh speakers and people in Wales generally to contribute towards developing the economy.
The company works at different levels:
- It designs development programmes in the field of business support, entrepreneurship and innovation;
- It is also responsible for the delivery of such programmes nationally and on a local level;
- It also contributes to policy development in sectors relevant to the company‘s activities.
The Menter a Busnes group includes commercial sub-companies that offer consultancy services in the field of economic development and that also sell services aimed at assisting companies to grow. These include assistance with financial, marketing and personnel matters. Loans at competitive rates are also offered to businesses that meet certain criteria.
Why does it exist?
The company was initially established to ensure that Welsh speakers had the appropriate support to assist them to contribute fully to the economy – and that remains a fundamental role within the company. The innovative techniques developed by the company to fulfil this role has lead to other opportunities and Menter a Busnes is now responsible for delivering wider economic development services in Wales.
How does it work?
The majority of the company‘s activities are offered in partnership with other organisations. If they are services on behalf of public bodies Menter a Busnes must win the right to deliver them through a competitive tender process.
Direct funding applications are also prepared in order to support specific activities, with match funding often being offered by other bodies and companies. Income derived from commercial activities is also used to support core activities.
Where is it available?
The company operates throughout Wales. The head office is in Aberystwyth and there are offices in Cardiff, Bangor, Mold and Llanelli.
