When watching television programmes, few of us ever notice a vital element in creating the correct atmosphere, the background music. It is, however, crucial to the finished production, and composing television background music is a very specific skill. For this reason, such composers are in demand, with Welsh television production companies often having to look outside Wales to meet their music needs.

Therefore, when an application to the Llwyddo‘n Lleol bursary arrived from Gronw Roberts, of Felinheli, who hoped to set up in business as just such a composer, it immediately grabbed the attention of the panel.

Gronw was able to provide a full business plan, backed up by letters from a number of the main Welsh television production companies which verified the need for such a service within Wales. He clearly understood his target market, and had experience in the area, including former employment as a television sound recordist.

All of this combined to make a strong business plan, and Gronw was awarded a bursary to contribute towards music software and specialist computer equipment. He has already begun work for major television companies ? watch out for his name!
