Do you dream of developing a new business, or want to develop an exciting new idea within a business which was formed in the last 5 years ... well, here's your chance to win FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS along with professional business advice to turn your idea into reality.
This opportunity arises through the Gorsedd y Dreigiau (Bard of Dragons) competition (a panel of outstanding Welsh entrepreneurs) who team up to adjudicate an unique competition for Welsh speakers based on the concept of the popular television programme ‘Dragons‘ Den‘.
The competition is organised by Menter a Busnes in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly Government, and with the help of Welsh television company Telesgop.
All competitors are asked to provide a simple business plan outlining their idea (a template business plan is attached) and three competitors will be invited to pitch their idea to the Gorsedd of Dragons at a lunchtime event on the Eisteddfod Maes at Ebbw Vale on Wednesday, 4th August. Wales‘ Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones AM will present the prizes.
Closing date for receiving entries is the 2nd of July 2010, to be sent to Menter a Busnes, Unit 3, The Science Park, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. SY23 3AH or via email to eirian.davies@menterabusnes.co.uk
The competition is open to any Welsh speakers who wish to live and work in Wales (the final round presentation held at the National Eisteddfod will be through the medium of Welsh). It is open to any sort of business idea (inventions, products, services, etc). Participants may submit more than one entry if they wish. Entries can be from individuals, partnerships or groups of people and all information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Last year was the first time for the Gorsedd y Dreigiau (Dragons‘ Gorsedd) to meet and Guto Roberts from Benllech, Anglesey succeeded in winning the main prize with a business idea for a surfboard repair company. By now Guto has started building a repair workshop for the business and the prize money has been extremely useful as the business develops.
The other two finalists were Elen Wyn Lloyd from Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd near Ruthin who has established a business that combines wellbeing and keeping fit with the environment; and Shelley Rees who is hoping to set up a Welsh medium nursery in Swansea.
