Communities First Support Network

The Communities First Support Network, (CFSN) is a formal partnership of nine third sector organisations, established in 2001 to provide support to the Communities First Programme.

As one of those partners Menter a Busnes is available to offer advice and support regarding the Welsh flanguage, bilingualism and encouraging the involvement of Welsh speakers in all Communities First areas.

We offer training opportunities and can also visit partnerships to help with specific projects. Intense support is also available to those who want to develop specific initiatives aimed at encouraging the involvement of Welsh speakers.

We have also developed various resources to support Communities First personel with their work including:

  • Language Awareness Sessions that can be provided free of charge
  • Community Speak a guidance document on Communities First and the Welsh language
  • Communities First and Bilingualism: Meeting the Challenge a series of information sheets offering advice and information about how to operate more bilingually
  • Creating a Community Language Profile – a booklet offering assistance on how to develop a language profile of your community
  • Language Taster Pack – for anyone interested in having a taste of learning Welsh

Our support services are free of charge and we work cloesly with Estyn Llaw and the Mentrau Iaith (Welsh language initiatives) across Wales.

CFSN is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide services to Communities First partnerships, co-ordinators and other key stakeholders. These services include direct support for individual partnerships, programme wide information and the provision of guidance on specific key issues such as capacity building and community appraisal.
