Language Economy Developments

Menter a Busnes has developed a Research and Development Framework, as a result of a specified need set out in the Welsh Assembly Government's Welsh Language strategy 'Iaith Pawb'.

The aim is to increase knowledge and understanding of the link between language and economy in order to deliver a strategic contribution to the policies and activities of the main economic development bodies in Wales.

The work includes:

  • A Literary Review of current information on language-economy link
  • Commissioning of research to fill knowledge gaps
  • Learning from international best practice
  • Setting benchmarks to assess continuous change
  • Developing a long-term Evaluation model to measure the effect of various activities

A crucial element of the long term development of the R&D Framework is the Discussion Group which has a small number of representatives to discuss and lead on the main objectives of the Framework‘s work.

Menter a Busnes work closely with a number of key economic partners in Wales, including the Welsh Assembly Government, Welsh Development Agency, WLGA, Welsh Language Board, Gyrfa Cymru and economic and linguistic experts.
