A group of young people from Bala have proved that the spirit of enterprise runs in the family. Four children from the same family applied for assistance under the Llwyddo'n Lleol scheme, and despite high levels of competition, they were all successful!
"I received a phone call from a lady who asked for five application forms for her children. I never imagined we would actually receive so many applications, and certainly didn't expect the standard of each application would be so high" says Nia Swann of Llwyddo‘n Lleol.
The first application came from Moi, the youngest of the family, at just 14 years old, with his plans to produce organic eggs in his spare time. Moi put together an impressive business plan which showed how much thought he‘d put into the idea.
At the same time, Moi‘s sister Heledd submitted her application. Through her work, as an experienced sports rehabilitator, and sports massage lecturer, she had identified a need for naturally produced massage oils. She was therefore keen to start producing oils, and had started buying the necessary equipment.
"I'd researched the business thoroughly, and was confident that it would succeed", said Heledd, "but I was struggling to raise the money for the equipment. The contribution I received through the Llwyddo'n Lleol bursary has been invaluable in getting my business up and running."
Soon afterwards two more applications were submitted to the bursary panel. Rhiannon Dafydd put forward an excellent business plan to start her own translating company, and her brother Dafydd Elis submitted a plan to use surplus wood from his parents‘ farm to produce wood for kindling and barbeques, including scented versions created using the waste herbs from Heledd‘s oil enterprise!
"As a panel, we began to look forward to receiving applications from this family as their ideas were always so interesting, and they always put so much effort into their applications" said Llyr Huws Gruffydd from the bursary panel.
