Ellis Wyn Jones has a background in working as a runner, lorry driver and a set person with television companies. Therefore understandably, he felt nervous stepping out of the television industry into the painting and decorating world.
When Ellis realised that there would not be as much work for him in the media industry, he grabbed the opportunity to set up his own business to coincide with other work.
Within a short space of time, Ellis was more or less working for the business on a full time basis with the work flowing in regularly and fast.
"Before I started, I distributed professionally made flyers around the local shops and visited estate agents and so on, to promote myself. I also have good contacts with builders and plumbers. Everything is going really well."
Ellis feels that the Ffatri Fenter has been of great help to him. He received two types of grants including a marketing grant that went towards developing an eye-catching brand. He also received a training grant that went towards paying for a Health and Safety course and night classes in Interior Design.
"It would have been a battle without the help of the Ffatri Fenter. The coordinator had good contacts with other businesses such as where to go to buy quality business cards and design a logo and so on. The interest free loan went towards buying a laptop, which is also very handy."
Ellis admits that running his own business involves a lot of hard work, but with guidance from the Ffatri Fenter, he confesses that this is one of the best things that has ever happened to him.
"I have much more confidence now, especially with myself. It?s a great way to get to know new people, but most importantly, to get to know myself better."
