According to a new report, there has been an improvement in the net margins for many beef and sheep producers because the physical performance of herds and flocks is improving. Last week, despite most major pig processors increasing their spot prices by around 2p/kg, their supermarket customers are still being blamed for pig finishers’ losses. Also announced last week, livestock farmer group Graig Producers has made an agreement with Dunbia’s Welsh abattoir in Llanybydder, guaranteeing minimum prices for organic lamb. The organisation has said it hopes to encourage its members to produce organic lamb year-round and avoid the need for imports. Finally, Eblex has claimed its 10 new cuts, developed from the loin, leg, forequarter and breast using seam butchery techniques, could improve gross margins by 20 per cent.
