According to industry experts, discount supermarkets are enjoying a boom. What's more new research reveals that nearly half of shoppers are likely to use them next year. Latest retail frozen food statistics have shown a third quarter of growth for the sector, accounting to an increase of 3.6 per cent in value. A new survey has found that 94 per cent of consumers believe the animal welfare standards for fresh meat should also apply to frozen and processed foods, with 98 per cent believing that supermarkets should enforce the same standards of animal welfare on imported meat as on meat from British farms. Also announced this week, global beer consumption increasing by 2.4 per cent last year. An improvement on the 0.5 per cent growth seen in 2009.
